Baby Massage

Learn the age old art of baby massage.

It’s all about the bond.

Did you know that touch was the first sense your baby developed at the ripe old age of 8 weeks old in the womb? Incorporating nurturing touch into your daily routine with your baby is one of the most effective ways of cultivating the beginnings of your life long bond with your child. A strong emotional bond with primary caregivers provides babies with a secure base from which they can explore their world and develop healthy relationships with others. This is the basis of attachment theory.

Not only will you learn a new skill to share with your baby, you will also enjoy the effects of oxytocin flowing through a room of relaxed babies and connected parents.

Benefits of baby massage.

Bonding

Through a practice of baby massage you can enjoy expansive growth in the bond between you and your baby. A common misconception is that all parents feeling heart bursting love from the minute they lay eyes on their baby. While this is true for some, others feel the love grow over time. Either way, you will never regret the special one on one time you invest to connect, learn from each other and develop trust. Baby massage is the perfect way to do all of these things.

Relaxation

It can be hard to imagine what life would be like as a baby again. They are experiencing everything anew from experiences to sensations and even discovering they have body parts! This is exciting but it can also be overwhelming. Baby massage stimulates the release of calming hormones like oxytocin, serotonin and dopamine for both the caregiver and baby. It can also help to reduce stress hormones like cortisol and this can have a positive impact on sleep and settling in your baby. Studies have even shown that a regular practice of baby massage can have a positive impact on mothers with postnatal depression and anxiety.

Relief from discomfort

Crying and unsettled periods in babies can be extremely stressful for everyone. While baby massage is not considered a therapy both research and anecdotal reports suggest it can provide relief from discomfort caused by teething, colic and digestion when done as a practice with their willing permission.

Stimulation

Baby massage is a great way to stimulate all of the major systems in your baby’s body that impact on brain development, balance, co-ordination and digestion. Through the practice of massaging different body parts your baby will develop a mind-body awareness. We also incorporate fun rhymes and songs that not only act as entertainment but stimulate their learning of language and communication.

Testimonials

  • It is a great opportunity to stop and pause during a busy week or day, almost like a mediation for both baby and mother! It’s an informative and comfortable way to learn techniques to settle your baby. It also provides a relaxed, welcoming space to socialise with other mothers.

  • I loved my baby massage course with Mazz and cannot recommend it enough. Mazz is incredibly kind and has an amazing ability to normalise all experiences and make you feel comfortable in her space. The massage itself was enjoyable for both my baby and myself and helped us to grow closer. A must-do for new mums and a great way to meet others in the same season of life.

  • Baby massage has been a very special and unique way for me to connect with my baby. I absolutely love watching his reactions to each move and his interactions with the other babies in class. It's a really wonderful way to slow down and get to know your baby. Baby massage is now a part of our daily routine and I couldn't recommend it more to new parents.
