Postpartum Doula Support in Sydney

Feel empowered, supported and connected.

What is a Postpartum Doula?

I’m a companion who walks alongside you throughout your pregnancy and fourth trimester supporting your emotional, physical and practical needs. I aim to ‘mother the mother’, empowering you to navigate this incredibly challenging yet rewarding time and build the skills that will set you up for your lifelong journey of motherhood.

After birth there is a sacred window of time…a time for complete rejuvenation of a woman’s physical, mental and spiritual health…time for deep, extended bonding with her newborn…The first 42 days after birth set the stage for her next 42 years.

My postpartum offerings

My bespoke postpartum support offerings are designed for modern mums who want to swap exhaustion, overwhelm and isolation for empowerment, support and connection as they transition to motherhood or expand their family.

Swap Exhaustion for

Empowerment

Don’t rely on google searches for every detail of your postpartum recovery and baby’s development. I believe you are the expert of your own baby and with gentle encouragement and evidenced-based information you will evolve into an empowered and confident mother.

Swap Overwhelm for

Support

Instead of feeling unacknowledged after your momentous birth experience and isolated in your daily struggle as a mother you will be truly seen, heard, honoured and given the emotional, practical and physical support you deserve during this vulnerable and transformative time.

Swap Isolation for

Connection

Motherhood can be lonely but stepping into your role as mother doesn’t have to mean stepping out of connection with your community. Get connected with families, professionals and resources that will help to normalise your experience so you never feel alone.

What does a Postpartum Doula actually do?

Together with your partner we will create a personalised vision for a postpartum that highlights your dreams and fears and addresses any challenges standing in your way. Entering into your postpartum with knowledge and preparation is what will set you up for a positive experience, as opposed to a stressful one.

We’ll build out your support village step-by-step, exploring who to include and how to ask for the help you need, create a bespoke plan to boost and keep your oxytocin flowing (to aid in bonding,  breastfeeding and general wellbeing), develop your menu of healing, nourishing (not to mention mouthwatering) foods and work on any mindset issues that might be getting in the way of you entering into motherhood, or expanding your family with ease and joy.

When I have the honour of caring for you in your home 1:1 we will begin by tuning into exactly how you are feeling physically, mentally and emotionally, what might bring you peace on that day and most importantly what you want to eat!

Your needs in the moment will determine how we spend our time together but here are some of the ways I will support you:

    • Warming and relaxing epsom salts foot soak followed by Ayurvedic Abhyanga warm oil massage (feet, legs, arms, hands, head, neck & shoulders).

    • Belly binding techniques to provide comfort and assist in post birth recovery.

    • Giving you confidence in a sequence of baby massage techniques and an understanding of the best time for massage so you can establish a ritual of nurturing touch.

    • Providing you with the perfect conditions (and gentle encouragement) for a restful nap.

    • Sharing resources on safe and juicy stretches to ease the aches and pains that come from baby carrying and breastfeeding.

    • Deep listening. I’ll be your safe space for sharing everything that’s on your mind free of judgement and without unsolicited advice.

    • Debriefing on your full birth experience. I’m here for every tiny detail! I can also record this if you would like to keep it as a memento or something to return to as you continue to process how it unfolded for you.

    • Becoming your breastfeeding cheerleader, if that’s how you choose to feed your baby. Did you know breastfeeding is the only biological process that heavily relies on another person’s support for it to be successful?

    • Helping you to understand baby brain (yep your brain is completely remodelling during pregnancy and will continue to do so in postpartum) and how to tap into it as your superpower.

    • Brainstorming ideas for boosting your oxytocin (the powerful love hormone) to facilitate bonding, breastfeeding and general wellbeing.

    • Sharing simple breathing techniques to regulate and calm your nervous system (and in turn your baby’s).

    • Sleep strategies for you and your partner’s sleep hygiene.

    • Navigating family dynamics and visiting hours.

    • Helping you to set up your postpartum space at home with everything you need to rest and feel at peace.

    • Steps to build your village of support and how to ask for help so you get exactly what you need in the immediate postpartum period and beyond.

    • Providing evidence based research and resources.

    • Education on normal newborn behaviour, sleep and settling techniques.

    • Connecting you with a network of hidden gems for mothers and families including a range of health practitioners, baby classes/workshops and ideas for meeting other new mothers, local food deliveries and much more.

    • Helping you find and book a local women’s physio for your 6 wk check up and pelvic floor health assessment.

    • Support getting out of the house when you feel ready for appointments or even to the local shops for a coffee. It can feel like a massive feat to tackle alone at the start.

    • Holding your baby so you can nap, eat, enjoy a bath or whatever might bring you a moment of peace.

    • Light housekeeping and laundry. I’m no housekeeper but sometimes a fresh load of washing is worth its weight in gold.

    • A mini library of books and baby carriers to borrow from.

    • Cooking warming, healing and delicious meals, snacks and drinks for recovery. 1 x main and 1 x snack with multiples serves at each session.

    • Sharing recipes and food preparation ideas to help keep you nourished and replenished.

    • Helping you to understand the vital macro and micro nutrients needed to avoid postnatal depletion.

    • Setting up a meal train - a simple and organised way for your closest friends and family to support you with meals in the early weeks.

Postpartum Food

If there is one thing that you’ll get told about nutrition in postpartum it’s that you’ll be hungry, or most likely starving!! Yep, it’s true, you may experience hunger like never before but there is also a lot more to postpartum nutrition.

You are likely to need up to 500 extra calories a day but what you eat is just as important as how much. Your body is rebuilding and recovering from pregnancy and birth and utilising your nutrients to optimise the breast milk your baby receives. The right food will support this process and help you to avoid any postpartum depletion.

I take inspiration from the universal themes in postpartum food from across many traditional cultures and apply these to my cooking for you. Think warming, grounding, sweet, wholesome comfort that will speak to those oxytocin receptors in your tummy and leave you feeling content.
